An anonymous admonition of the ineptitude of Edinburgh magistrates regarding the mismanaged execution of Robert Johnston in 1818. Johnston, a twenty-two-year-old convicted of highway robbery, was momentarily rescued from the gallows by a mob incensed by his suffering at the hands of an inept executioner.
