Endemic browning of paper where both suites meet in the book, wrapper slightly worn on head and tail of spine. A crisp clean copy. Very rare institutionally with seemingly one only on WorldCat: attributing the illustra tions to Rojan but rather they are in the style of. No copy in Dutel 2594, Pia 1501. Provenance: from the collections of Jean-Pierre Faur and Emmanuel Pierrat. A homage to the great Radiguet with images by a very ef- fective imitator (do see #172 & 173 in the Valentine Hugo section in this cata-logue for her tributes to Radiguet). Pia notes that everything is an imitation in this new edition of the then very young Radiguet's erotic paeans to sex with young women, from the illustrations (in the style of Rojan) to the imprint 'Varenne' and of course the clandestine pub- lisher's name ? the French for ?horn of plenty' that is illus- trated with a vignette of a horn full of lolling penises. For his note to the first, 1926 edition of this title issued by Rene Bonnel, Pia notes how the manuscript was retrieved from Miss Beatrix Hastings, real name Emily Alice Haigh, a lover of Radiguet. They were counterfeited over the objections of Cocteau, Bernard Grasset and Pe?re Radiguet. No one apparently knows why Cocteau objected but he was going through a bit of a Christian penitent phase. Long after, la famille Radiguet employed an Italian scholar to research his papers and they were canonised by being col- lected into an Italian edition of Radiguet's unpublished works. Pia also suggests that the use of ? Varenne' as an imprint evokes Radiguet's early life in the suburbs. 219476.
