Second edition entirely rewritten. Volume 1. Complete set of 5 plates. Publisher's red cloth binding in fair plus condition, decoratively embossed to upper board and spine in gilt tooling. Spine panel cracking along hinge to lower board; text block a little shaken; just cracking over endpapers front and rear. Text block otherwise sound. Front free reveals a previous ownership inscription which reads 'Ian Baxter 1952'. Preliminaries are a touch age spotted and age toned throughout as expected. Beautiful colour plate numbered i in very good condition to frontispiece. Pretty vignette to title page. Plates iii - vi follow contents pages, in fair condition, age spotted in parts. (plate ii is only included in volume 2 therefore not missing). 139 b/w lithographs illustrative of fossil botany throughout.
