Museum Day (We Both Read: Level K (Paperback))

This book follows a young girl and her dad as they spend a fun-filled day exploring all the fascinating exhibits in a museum. Along the way, a little bird adds some delightful humor as it manages to get into the museum and follows the girl and her dad through the exhibits.

An African American father and his daughter spend a day exploring a museum in this latest entry in the We Both Read series. The book is designed for buddy reading, with left-hand pages written for the adult (or more experienced) reader, and right-hand pages written for the child. This particular title is written at Level K, the first level, so the text is simple; the child’s portion consists of a single word that completes the sentence begun by the adult. The rhyming text and illustrations help to prompt the child reader, so the experience should feel natural. The museum setting is sure to appeal to children, as will the subplot involving a trapped bird. There are plenty of “look and find” opportunities as the bird follows the girl and her dad around the museum. An introduction provides tips for reading aloud, as well as recommendations for using the book as part of a reading routine, making this a fine place for new parents to start.
