Third edition. 8vo. Bound in half black morocco over black pebble-grained cloth, lettered in gilt to the spine. Top edge gilt. A good copy, with some wear to the hinges and browning to some plates. Small abrasion to plate facing p206. Fifty coloured and five monochrome steel engraved plates and ninety-seven wood engravings in the text. Prichard's influential pre-Darwinian study aimed to categorise all races of humans, while holding to the Biblical notion that all races share a common ancestor and weren't divisible as separate species.
