First edition to be published under the editorship of writer and translator William Tooke (c.1744-1820). Published in 11 volumes in 1761, the Dictionary was robustly augmented and revised for this edition. 15 vols, octavo (208 x 121 mm). Contemporary streaked calf, flat spines, black morocco title labels, red morocco roundel numbering-pieces, compartments gilt with zig-zag pattern, single foliate roll to boards, edges sprinkled red. Ownership inscriptions dated 1804 to front pastedowns, armorial bookplates likely of Benjamin Blades Haworth (1763-1836). Lightly rubbed, worm hole at head of vol. XIV spine. A near-fine set.
