Paperback trade, very good condition, minor edgewear. 336 pp. Martin Seligman, the respected American cognitive psychologist, and author of 'Learned Optimism', aims to teach parents how to instil in children a sense of optimism and personal mastery (positive emotions). He proposes that improved self-esteem comes from mastering challenges, overcoming frustration, and experiencing individual achievement. Based on research at the 'Penn Depression Prevention Project', which shows the high depression rates in children can be cut by half by encouraging optimism.
