Rider Haggard, in profile, seated, shown in three-quarter length, in fur trimmed over coat, wearing an orchid on his lapel. Printed adjacent the photograph, on the mount, is a 29-line biographical sketch. Verso is blank. Three early staple marks at left edge (in margin), else the photograph and mount are in fine condition; nicely matted. measuring 4 1/2 by 3 inches, on publisher's printed cardstock mount (measuring 7 by 11 inches). Henry Rider Haggard (1856-1925), English writer of adventure, and Lost World fiction, was born in Norfolk, England. Benjamin J. Falk (1852-1925) was one of the foremost New York portrait photographers. Apparently an uncommon image by Falk-- not among the 30 Falk photographs held by the Folger Shakespeare Library, and also not among the 22 portraits of Haggard, or 6 photographic prints by Falk, held by the National Portrait Gallery (London).
