4to. 9 x 11 inches. [2] + ii + 130 pp. Bound in original black morocco, decorated gilt. Marbled endpapers. Extremities worn and some widespread foxing of both letterpress and plates, the latter largely confined to margins. Small tears to map and one plate neatly repaired; otherwise a good copy. Illustrated by full page frontispiece of Canterbury Cathedral, engraved title with steel engraved vignette, folding engraved map (opposite the letterpress title) and by 62 pages of plates with 124 steel engraved plates, printed two to a page, largely the work of George Shepherd (1765?-1831) and Henry Gastineau (1791-1876). The principal engraved view book of 19th century Kentish topography. Only the Kent and Essex (by Thomas Wright) volumes of the Picturesque Beauties of Great Britain seem to have appeared.
