8vo, pp, xiii, 325, fine tree calf gilt, heavily gilt spine with raised bands, gilt panelled boards with gilt edges, marbled fore-edges and endpapers, inscription in memory of Claude Gordon Morrison date 5th March 1911 Born in England 19th October 1833 and took his own life in Australia 24th June 1870. A British-Australian Poet, Horseman, Police Officer and Politician. He was the first Australian Poet to gain considerable recognition overseas. Gordon's work represented the beginnings of a national school of Australian Poetry. The late Queen Elizabeth, Arthur Conan Doyle and Oscar Wilde counted amongst his admirers.
