Largely unopened in orig. grey-green moirée cloth, paper label; sl. marked by damp but a nice copy. With a new preface to the second edition. James Simpson, 1781-1853, was a Scottish advocate, author and phrenologist, and friend of Sir Walter Scott. One of the founders of the Edinburgh modern infant school, Simpson devoted himself to the cause of non-sectarian education and the promotion of better elementary education.
