[Children's Illustrated] EARLY EDITION. Octavo (19 x 15cm), pp.52. Ten colour plates including frontispiece, and numerous in-text illustrations. Publisher's maroon paper over boards, with white titles to spine and upper, circular illustrated plate laid onto upper, lilac illustrated endpapers. Ownership inscriptions in black ink to front endpaper and flyleaf, spotting throughout with offsetting to endpapers. Heavy toning to boards, more so upper and spine, some wear to boards. Heavy wear to joints; repairs to split hinges. A good copy of a Children's classic. An Edwardian parable gently touching on concerns of race and class, in which a cat learns it is best not to associate too closely with dogs. First Published in 1905. Seller Inventory # 62775

Printed by Edmund Evans, The Racquet Court Press, London S.E. and the first of her works to be published in a large format, dated 1905 to the copyright page, but not to the title page. 8vo. 7'' x 5½''. Contains colour frontispiece., 52 page story with nine single-sided colour plates, monochrome text illustrations throughout. Very light spotting to a couple of leaves, one small thumb-nail chip to the bottom corner of page 29, neat repair to the foot of the spine and in Very Good sound condition, no dust wrapper. Publisher's address 36 East 22d Street. Text agrees with the London edition, except for p.36 line 10, "cooked into?", which is here rendered "cooked into!" An edition not seen by the bibliographer Jane Quinby. Light browning and occasional spotting. Spine sunned with some wear to outer edges. Spine head lightly chipped and pulled. Very good.
