In 254pp. First published in 1780. From the preliminary advertisement: 'Poetry is an art which no liberal of cultivated mind can, or ought to be wholly ignorant. The pleasure which is gives, and indeed the necessity of knowing enough of it to mix in modern conversation, will evince the utility of the following Compilation, which offers in a small compass the very flower of English Poetry, and in which, care has been taken to select not only such pieces as Innocence may read without a blush, but such as will ever tend to strengthen Innocence.' Includes works by Goldsmith, Pope, Milton, Dryden, Lewis, Bowles, Cowper, Bloomfield, Montgomery, Byron, and others. Henry A. Harben wrote the important London reference book A Dictionary of London: Being Notes Topographical and Historical Relating to the Streets and Principal Buildings in the City of London (1918), which was published eight years after his death in 1910.
