Portrait of Sir William Chambers, R.A., 17 March 1793 A profile portrait of the architect Sir William Chambers, R.A. (1726-1796). Chambers trained as an architect in Paris and Rome before settling in London in 1755. Commissions from the Royal Family followed and he was soon in demand, designing town and country houses. Best known as the architect of Somerset House, Chambers also published a number of influential architectural treatises.
