Broadside. 4to. Chipped at edges, faint old folds. Speenhamland, Hall and Marsh, Dec. 23rd, An unrecorded broadside offering a cash reward for information concerning the theft of "seven turkies from a fowl house at Anville Farn, near Hungerford, the property of Mr. William Curnick." Issued by a local firm of solicitors, Matthews and Hulbert, the reward is mostly fronted by the West Berks Association for the Prosecution of Felons. This society, founded in the same year as this incident, was by subscription of one guinea per year. In return, if a member was the victim of a crime, the Association would advertise and offer a reward for its resolution. Given the timing of this crime, on the 23rd of December, it's easy to imagine that these stolen turkeys ended up as Christmas dinner.
