Rabaut, who writes only the first volume here, was a moderate revolutionary who, as a member of the Constituent Assembly, was involved in the framing of the constitution. He was guillotined in 1793. Lacretelle was a historian whose monarchist sympathies placed him in obvious danger. Influential connections enabled him to avoid execution and he lived until 1855.Contemporary (1821) ownership signature on verso of each front free endpaper.
