In preparing for publication in book form the mass of relevant matter contained in the journal, much of it neces- sarily had to be re-arranged and re-written. The matter and illustrations dealing with handrails for stone stairs and with moulded caps intersecting handrails without easements were contributed by Mr. C. W. D. Boxall, and he has kindly revised the whole of the proofs of this present manual.
