The preface (and The Vision of Theodore, the Hermit of Teneriffe, Found in his Cell) were written by Samuel Johnson.'- Lowndes. Vol. I, pp. [2],l,5-414,[4]; Vol. II, pp. [ii],560. With two frontispieces, five folding hand coloured maps & 29 folding copper plates. Some of the plates creased, one with a marginal closed tear, no loss. The first volume affected by light lower marginal damp-staining. Bound in contemporary tree calf, with labels, gilt, the spine ends slighty worn.
