Third Edition, printed the same year as First edition (also issued by Printed for James Knapton and Timothy Childe). THIS CELEBRATED WORK IGNITED ONE OF THE GREATEST THEOLOGICAL CONTROVERSIES OF 18TH-CENTURY ENGLAND, the "Bangorian Controversy". Benjamin Hoadly (1676 - 1761) English clergyman, at various times Bishop of Bangor, Hereford, Salisbury, and Winchester. Bound in early nineteenth century paper binding, yellow paper spine over pink paper boards, title in ink on spine. Good-, front spine hinge is split with several tears across the spine, edges of front cover are faded, corners rubbed, heavy spotting to title-page, several small chips along front edge of title-page, small chip and tear on top left corner of title-page; foxing to title page with browning to text margins throughout, some of the pages cropped so the page numbers are missing (although text is complete and readable). 12.5 x 20cm. iv, 102 & 2pp ads at rear. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾".
