First edition, large 8vo, xxvii, (i), 534 pp. Small closed tear to the top margin of pp. xiii/xiv, small piece torn from the margin of pp. 71/2 without loss of text. Some pencilled marginalia throughout, occasionally cut close by the binder. Recent blue calf, marbled sides, red morocco spine label. No second volume appeared.
