Photographic front. & illus., plates. Orig. blue cloth, recased retaining lettering from original spine; rubbed & a little faded. The construction, engineering, and plans of the RMS Aquitania, nicknamed 'ship beautiful' and one of the iconic triumvirate of Cunard liners with RMS Mauritania and RMS Lusitania. Designed by Leonard Peskett and built by John Brown & Co. in Clydebank, she was launched in April 1913. Having survived military service in both world wars, she was finally withdrawn from service in 1949, holding the record for the longest service career of any twentieth century ship until the record was broken by the QE2 in 2004.
