Mack W. Borgen was born in Kalispell, Montana. He was raised in the Pacific Northwest and then Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with Honors in Economics (where he also delivered one of last university-wide commencement addresses) and, thereafter, from Harvard Law School.

After serving for more than four years in the U.S. Army, he moved to Coastal Spain to write. After his stay in Europe he returned to the United States where he began a career simultaneously practicing business law and for years writing a private newsletter about various economic, political and social matters.

Over the last five years he has devoted much of his time to the writing a series of books entitled The Chance of a Life - A Series of Books About the Patient Remaking of American Life. The Relevance of Reason - Business and Politics is the first book in this series. Its companion book, The Relevance of Reason - Society and Culture will be released in October, 2013.

He lives with his wife and son in Santa Barbara, California and Bigfork, Montana.
