Folio, pp., [8], 62, [iv] plus tissue-guarded, fold-out, stipple-engraved frontispiece and 36 plates, of which 2 are large fold-outs and 10 are hand-coloured. Contemporary forest green cloth, titled to paper spine label. Ownership signature of Paul Bidwell in blue ink to front free end-paper. 'Department of Archaeology' stamps to front paste-down and title-page. Annotated very occasionally in pencil by a former owner. Corners bumped and rubbed, one corner on upper board creased, upper joint worn, rubbing to spine-tips. Occasional scattered foxing, affecting a few plates only. A very good copy. A richly illustrated volume, with particularly good full-colour plates of Samian Ware. Paul Bidwell OBE was responsible for the excavation of Vindolanda, and the reconstruction of Segedunum on Hadrian's Wall, and remains one of the most respected archaeologists of his generation. Bidwell participated in excavations at Aldborough in 2003, and no doubt will have consulted this volume in the process.…
