Report of the Special Committee on Legislative Drafting: To Be Presented at the Meeting of the American Bar Association, at Washington, D. C., October 20-22, 1914 (Classic Reprint)

This book provides a concise overview of the crucial changes in the language and structure of statutory law across Europe from the Middle Ages to the late 19th century, particularly England and the growing influence of the United States. The author, a legal scholar, focuses on themes of legal drafting, precision of language, and organization to argue that these trends are part of a broader ideological shift in legal theory toward greater rationality, scientific method, and democratic values. The book presents historical evidence from original source material to illustrate the evolution of legal drafting and argues for its continued evolution towards greater simplicity, consistency, and accessibility for the layperson.
