Rubber Processing: An Introduction

This book deals with all aspects of rubber processing; mixing, milling, calendering, extrusion and molding, and also testing and specification of raw materials, mixed compound, and end products. It also covers the importance of flow behavior (rheology) in rubber processing. It deals with basic theory, and its application to practice. It includes section on the processing behavior of natural rubber, the various synthetic rubbers, and their compounds. It is primarily an overview, but the bibilographies and references to the literature will enable the interested reader to dig deeper into any specific subject.

Peter Johnson has worked in the rubber industry for 25 years, mostly in the field of processing, mixing, milling, calendaring, extrusion, molding, and testing. From 1976-1986, Johnson was an Associate Editor of Rubber Chemistry and Technology, the official journal of the Rubber Division of the American Chemical Society. He has authored chapters on various aspects of processing in six textbooks, and has lectured on processing at courses run by the ACS Rubber Division, other professional bodies, and universities. Since 1997, he has been an independent consultant on rubber processing.
