Naive watercolour painting, approx. 11 x 8 inches, in acid-free double window mount ready for framing. Watercolour, heightened with white, on light blue coloured artist's sketching paper. Pencil identification rather faint top right. dated and signed with initials E.A.S., an unidentified amateur. Purchased with 4 others by the same hand. A view looking North from Castle Road at its junction with Lister Way showing the site of what was to become the National School, not built until 1866. Martello no. 6 is in full view behind the land of the Earl of Darnley's Enbrook estate. The white weather-boarded cottages at the foot of Sandgate Hill are shown in detail, and the roof and cupola of the Episcopal Chapel, built by the Earl of Darnley in 1822 and replaced by St. Paul's in 1846, are visible immediately behind. A very attractive and detailed painting.

Founded by Patrick Marrin's father George in 1946, Marrin's Bookshop has been based in its current Folkestone location since 1963. Patrick has worked in bookselling since 1970. As well as rare antiquarian books, maps and prints, the stock includes a wide range of literature, library sets, travel, history and illustrated books in all fields. We also offer a bookbinding and restoration service. Visitors to the shop are welcome and we exhibit at UK book fairs.
