Oblong 4to. 8.25 x 9 inches. Unpaginated. 35 + [1] pp. publisher's series advertisement. In stiff card pictorial wrapper with red spine tape. A little wear to extremities, including corners and head and tail of spine. Foxing of endpapers, but otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated throughout in colour and black and white. Decorated by title page vignette. Pere Castor's Wild Animal Books were high quality, beautifully illustrated children's books, written by Lida Durdikova (1899-1955), and originally published in France in the 1930s, this title appearing as Scaf le phoque in 1936. Translated by Rose Fyleman (1877-1957), children's writer, poet and translator. With the lithographs of Feodor Stepanovich Rojankovsky ('Rojan') (1891-1970), Russian emigre children's book illustrator. FICTION CHILDRENS LIT. As well as rare antiquarian books, maps and prints, the stock includes a wide range of literature, library sets, travel, history and illustrated books in all fields.
