Large 8vo. 6.75 x 9.25 inches. xi + [i] + 226 pp. Illustrated by 89 black and white photographic plates, including frontispiece and by 2 coloured folding maps of The Somali Protectorate and The Granite Range of Sinai in pockets at front and rear. A well illustrated account of travel and hunting in Somaliland, Egypt and Sinai, Dagestan, the Carpathians and Crete. The first series of Short Stalks was published in 1892. Edward North Buxton (1840-1924) was known as a conservationist for his role in helping to save Epping and Hainault Forests for public use. He was also an alpine climber and served as LIberal MP for Walthamstow, 1885-86. He presented this copy of his book to William Lee-Warner (1846-1914, author and colonial civil servant and administrator in India until 1895, when he returned to serve in the India Office and later on the Council Of India.
