8vo. 8.25 x 6.75 inches. Unpaginated. [52] pp. Title in brown. Bound in coarse textured cloth with stencil titles and colour decoration on front board and gold block on rear. Top edge gilt, others rough cut. A little wear and edge darkening of board edges and traces of label removal on front pastedown. Scattered foxing largely confined to preliminaries and margins; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by art nouveau text surrounds, initials and vignettes. This collection of personal love sonnets by Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806-61) has been highly acclaimed since it was first published in 1850. There is no real link with Portugal, the title being suggested by Robert Browning. This limited edition was decorated by Adrian J. Iorio (1879-1957), Us artist, designer and illustrator.
