Thick 8vo. 9 x 7 inches. ix + [iii] + 408 pp. Bound in original blue cloth, gilt. Some wear to extremities, including edge sunning and a small damp stain. Hinges starting to crack, but otherwise a very good copy. Ownership inscriptions on front and rear pastedowns and flyleaf. Illustrated by 12 plates including frontispiece and black and white photographs with two folding plans, with text figures and tables. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. Early edition of standard work on ships cargo stowage with extensively revised editions appearing up to the present day, It includes a list of the principal commodities with their stowage requirements. By Captain Robert Ellis Thomas (b.1873). The first edition appeared in 1926 following The Carriage of Goods by Sea Act of 1924. Founded by Patrick Marrin's father George in 1946, Marrin's Bookshop has been based in its current Folkestone location since 1963. Patrick has worked in bookselling since 1970. As well as rare antiquarian books, maps and prints, the stock includes a wide range of literature, library sets, travel, history and illustrated books in all fields.
