Sermons

Sermons by Reuben Tinker is a 19th-century American evangelical sermon collection that emphasizes salvation through holiness, personal accountability, and missionary zeal. This Part 3 (of 4) assembles didactic Sermons grounded in Scripture and biblical narratives, urging listeners to pursue a holy life as the indispensable condition for Heaven, to seek revival and mission, and to live with steadfast accountability before God. Through episodes and figures such as Naaman, Peter, the Young Ruler, and the apostolic imagery of the armor of God, the text links individual sanctification with corporate witness, social reform, and global evangelism. The volume also places strong emphasis on the sanctifying fruit of faith—zeal in good works, public prayer, and missions—alongside warnings about spiritual warfare and the necessity of immediate discipleship. Interwoven with sermon content are biographical and historical materials about Tinker’s life and ministry, including his Pacific missions, leadership in publishing and seamen’s ministry, and later pastoral work in Westfield. The tone remains exhortatory, doctrinal, and practical, aimed at shaping believers who defend the faith through holy living and active service.
