13 wood-engraved illustrations, including frontispiece, frontispiece faintly stained at upper edge, and illustration toned, pp. 72, 12mo in 6s, contemporary boards with crude but charming near contemporary illustrations - a swan on the rear board and pheasant (titled, 'Peasant') on the upper board presumably by the book's owner, who has inscribed the boards, 'Thomas Draycott, Kirby, 1830', the free endpaper, and both pastedowns, 'His Book', joints strengthened, board edges rubbed, good. As early as 1806, when operating in Gainsborough, Henry Mozley had commissioned Bewick to supply a series of cuts which he could use, and re-use, for narrative/verse collections, and though progress was slow and the cuts were not always to Mozley's high standards, he continued to commission more despite Bewick's rapidly rising fees. There is no sign of the cuts (which Tattersfield identifies as actually the work of Bewick's apprentice, Edward Willis) in any Mozley publications from this period; 20 appear in Evening Tales, 1815, and further publications after Mozley's move to Derby in mid 1816. No other copy traced. (Tattersfield TB Vol II, p.906).
