[ONE OF 500 COPIES] printed on handmade paper, 20 wood-engravings throughout the book, by Philip Hagreen, pp. [ii], vi, 40, crown 8vo, original blue buckram binding, backstrip lettered in gilt, top edge faintly dusty, other edges untrimmed, clipping relating to Pruden tipped in at rear, bookplate of Evan Gill (designed by his brother, Eric) to front pastedown, very good. A treatise from the master silversmith, whose ecclesiastical commissions included chalices for the Vatican and Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, and an altar cross for Exeter College, Oxford; the latter, early in his career, was secured for him through the offices of Eric Gill - whose bookplate for his brother, Evan, adorns this copy, an appealing association. Pruden had been drawn to Ditchling under Gill's influence and remained there for many years, whilst also teaching his craft at Brighton Art College. (Taylor & Sewell A227).
