Sound and essential, Simple Steps: The Chinese Way to Better Health by Lynn Jaffee is a fully enlightening health text that has the ability to change lives. In layman’s terms, Jaffee presents methods to treat the whole person, mind, body and soul. Written as a primer and an interactive workbook, this text is designed to help readers understand and improve their health using Chinese medicine. In thirteen chapters, the author dissects Eastern ways of dealing with common ailments. With titles such as “Balancing Yin and Yang,” “The Organ Systems” and “Tongue and Pulse Diagnosis,” a well-paced progression evolves that helps the reader understand this dynamic and ancient approach to health and wellbeing. There is a reason Chinese medicine has been around for so long; the modalities observe the whole body and can be very effective avenues of fighting chronic illnesses. As many Westerners have learned, one ailment often leads to another. This is the alternative—and it really is that simple.
