Synopsis:
Designed as an introduction to solid-state and condensed-matter physics, this textbook is ideal for one-semester graduate and advanced undergraduate courses in materials science. The new third edition includes a chapter on the properties of amorphous solids, and discusses recent progress in such areas as basic crystal structure, superconductivity, diffraction, defects, dislocations, specific heat, phonons, thermal and electrical conductivities, and the field of solid-state studies.
