Mid nineteenth century half calf over boards, rubbed and abraded, the spine with five raised bands, wanting the title label. James Hogg ( 1770 - 1835 ) was a writer of verse also known as the Ettrick Shepherd because as a boy he tended sheep, he was born in Selkirkshire, Scotland. He made the acquaintance of Sir Walter Scott. The Forest Minstrel was Hogg's first literary project of which he contributed about two - thirds. For more details of Hogg see ODNB.
