2 vols., folio, pp. xx, 44; xxiii, [i], 34, 24 (glossary) + two engraved frontispieces and 112 engraved plates. Modern half calf, marbled boards, spines divided by raised bands, red morocco labels lettered in gilt, other compartments with central tool in blind, edges rough trimmed. Some foxing and dampstaining. Binding a little marked. The second edition of a collaboration between architect Auguste Pugin (c.1768-1832) and E.J. Willson (1787-1854), with publishing support from John Britton (1771-1857), who declined to have his name printed on the title-page, though was heavily involved in the project. Intended as a guide for architects, the steel-engraved illustrations were clear and elegant, but the book was not a commercial success, and Pugin began teaching architectural drawing to supplement his income.
