Brown, finely ribbed cloth covered boards with blind double-fillet borders on front and back board panels. Spines are blind-paneled and with gilt lettering and graphics. Boards are scuffed overall and with several small scrapes. Edges at head and tail of board spine are split and fraying; front gutter of Vol 2 has a 3/4" crack at head of spine. All fore-edge corners and adjacent edges are rubbed through, corners are curled in. External page edges are age-darkened and stained. Foxing intermittent throughout but very legible. Same book plates on front paste-downs; end papers are stained and grubby; previous owner's name (which matches the book plates) in pencil on FFEPs. Vol 1: Frontispiece with tissue-guard in Vol I; also one previous owner's signature and another one's stamp on title page. viii, then Discourse begins with verso to page 26-520. Faint damp stains in the upper page margins throughout. Vol 2: Title page has one owner's name stamp. 482pp. Text blocks are sound.
