The book is conceived as a scholarly catalogue of the Judaica collection of Congregation Emanu-El, structured around the principal categories of liturgical and ceremonial objects. It includes Torah ornaments, menorahs, ceremonial silver, textiles and synagogue furnishings, each presented with descriptive entries that address provenance, iconography and craftsmanship. The accompanying essays provide historical context on the development of the congregation, its architectural evolution and its role in the cultural life of New York. The publication emphasizes both the continuity of Jewish artistic traditions and the diversity of stylistic influences across regions and periods. The extensive photographic documentation, consisting of high-quality color plates and detailed black and white images, plays a central role in supporting the analytical and descriptive content, making the book a reference work for scholars, collectors and institutions concerned with Jewish art and heritage. …
