The Three Oxonians Volume 2

The Three Oxonians by Frank Usher. The Three Oxonians charts a comic and sensational panorama of English university life and fashionable society in the 1870s. Set around St. Kenelm’s College, it follows the triumphant but impulsive romance of Herbert Colner and Lottie Williams, whose union is opposed by class differences, family intrigues, and a shadowy will that could alter fortunes. As Colner presses his suit, Mrs. Martin—a devoted confidante—discovers plans that strain friendship and trust. Meanwhile a ruthless plot by Lottie’s relatives, the Coulters, to seize her inheritance unfolds: a staged elopement, a drugged abduction, and a desperate race across London and the countryside. The tale alternates between tender love scenes, comic misunderstandings, and dark melodrama, culminating in a winter of suspense in which motive, loyalty, and the danger of money test the characters’ honour. The narrative weaves wit with peril, examining wealth, family obligation, and the perilous thrills of youth.
