The Toad's Code was written by Ryan Teixeira during his second battle with cancer at the young age of 20. The book illustrates his love for life, vivid imagination and indomitable spirit. It was illustrated by Ryan's longtime girlfriend, Nicole Pitman, and created at the suggestion of her mother, Debbi Pitman. A portion of the book sales are donated to the charitable organization he created called 17 Strong, whose mission is to send young adults with life-threatening illnesses on Victory Trips. Ryan Teixeira, a native of California s Central Coast, was a role model for everyone he met, young and old, whether on the baseball field or in everyday life. Just months after signing a baseball scholarship with Colorado Mesa University in 2014, at the age of eighteen, Ryan was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer. He battled through nine months of treatment with a positive attitude and an infectious smile. A year after finishing treatment and beating Ewing's Sarcoma, Ryan developed Leukemia, a side effect from his previous intense chemo treatment. Ryan wrote The Toad's Code while battling Leukemia in the hospital. A few months later Ryan passed away, but not without leaving a legacy and changing lives.
