title-page printed in red and black, pp. [xii], 416+[4], 12mo, romantique binding of red straight-grained morocco by Simier (signed towards foot of spine 'Simier R du Roi'), triple gilt fillets on sides with ornaments in the corners, flat spine gilt and blind tooled, gilt edges, minor wear, foot of upper joint just beginning to crack, armorial bookplate of Francis John Hughes. A counterfeit of the Elzevier edition of the same year, though apparently considered a genuine Elzevier when bound by Simier ('Elez. 1649' below the binder's signature). The original Paris edition was published in 1647, in 4to. (see Willems 1087; Rahir 2019). Seller Inventory # 65842

Zweite Elzevirausgabe dieser Koranübersetzung, die 1647 erstmals von dem französischen Orientalisten André du Ryer aus dem Arabischen ins Französische übersetzt wurde. Dank seines brillanten Stils fand sie große Anerkennung und wurde auch für Übertragungen in andere Sprachen genutzt. Einband etwas berieben, Leder des Vorderdeckel mit kleinen Fehlstellen, Rücken mit Leseknick, Exlibris auf Innendeckel (Carl Eugen, / Fürst von Lamberg), Name auf Titel (François Joseph / Comte de / Lamberg 1680). *: Paris, Chez Antoine de Sommaville, 1672, format in-12°, (12)pp nn + 486 pp + (4)nn pp (complet). Titre imprimé en rouge et noir. Relié en maroquin rouge de l'époque, Plats avec décoration dorée. Le premier propriétaire a voulu dissimiler le contenu de la reliure. Sur le dos: le titre doré ''Quinzaine de Noyon''. Feuilles de garde renouvellées, reliure avec des petites traces d'usage. (Probablement le corps du livre a été mis dans cette reliure; la chasse éxtérieure est un peu trop grand). Néamoins bon exemplaire. André du Ryer (c.1580 - c.1660 ) fameux orientalist, publiait en 1647 la première traduction du Coran en français ( format in-4°). Cette traduction était utilsée pour la traduction dans diverse langues européenne, comme l'allemand, le néerlandais, l'anglais. Seller Inventory # 55751
