A Translator's Guide to Selections from the First Five Books of the Old Testament (UBS Helps for Translators)

This volume, "A Translator's Guide to Selections from the First Five Books of the Old Testament," represents another in the series of "Helps for Translators," published by the United Bible Societies. A "Guide" is intended to give the kind of concise information that will directly aid the translator in making a satisfactory rendering of difficult passages. It also provides suggestions as to possible and appropriate translations. The discussion is organized according to the order of the TEV text. "Guides" are designed to provide the translator with the basic information needed to prepare a translation that is faithful to the meaning of the original and has a style that is appropriate for conveying the message to the reader in his own language.
