Two manuscript Engineering Diaries [so signed and titled], November 1837 to December 1838; January 1839 to September 1839. SIZE : 10 x 4 inches, 66 pages total. The first diary is primarily concerned with steam ships, engines, cannons and the manufacture of iron. For example - 'Went on board the iron ship Ironsides, Clinker built - rivets counter sunk, Stem and Stern port solid 3 in. thick, plates brought up at ea. side of them & rivetted thro, each rivet passing thro' plate stem or stern port & plates, strong iron knees at intervals of abt. 2ft. or 18 in. transversely across stem post rivetted also to the plates.'
