One single sheet (206 x 259mm) and one bifolium (404 x 252mm unfolded) of pre-printed letterhead, each completed in manuscript. Both creased from being folded for posting, some soiling, area of the bifolium torn away (affecting only one word in the return address) with a little damage from removal of adhered stamp touching one word on reverse. Two file receipts from a wine and spirit merchant in Inverclyde, the earlier one with letterhead in the name of Alexander Cullens and made out to ?Lieut Slade? on 15th November 1844 for 2 doz. Ginger wine and 2 doz. bottles of Cask, totalling £1 10s, paid 10th May 1845. The later one is on letterhead of Cullens?s successors (designated as such), Lyle & Whitehead, and is made out to James Melville Esquire in October 1848 and June 1849, for 2 doz. Port wine, ditto Sherry, and then again the same quantities of Sherry and Fine Sherry.
