Item description from seller

24 p. From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of the ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - Binding slightly stained, otherwise good and clean. - From the text: MEDICAL science tells us that more than one influenza virus can be the cause of an epidemic and that, though we may acquire immunity from one of these viruses, we are still liable to become the victims of another. University life has its epidemics too, and it is one of these which has recently been attacking Cardiff a rash of New Professors or, if you prefer technical terms, neocathedritis. There are many symptoms of this epidemic : for example, that much revered but highly idealistic document, the College Prospectus, begins to reveal hitherto unsuspected inaccuracies and infelicities of phrase; it is corrected, reshaped, refurbished, and then left inviolate until the next wave of the epidemic hits it. Again, that rather battered pack of playing-cards which is shuffled and dealt each year so as to supply the committees and representatives of Senate is replenished, and new and gayer pictures appear, albeit in safe and relatively inconspicuous places. But the most noticeable symptom of all is the inaugural lecture, from which some of us have been suffering most acutely during the past two sessions. - Wikipedia: Brinley Roderick Rees (27 December 1919 21 October 2004) was a Welsh academic. He wrote extensively on Classics, particularly the study of the Greek language. His early work was devoted to Greek papyri; a later publication was devoted to the life and letters of Pelagius.
