Web-Based Learning (Paperback)

This book utilizes a web-based learning model as the basis for professional development and technology training. The model is built around 6 systematic steps: Guided Tours, Scavenger Hunts, Web Page Development, Internet Discoveries, CyberInquiries and WebQuests. Professional development is provided in the context of instructional activities that incorporate computers and web-based instructional resources to create authentic and challenging classroom instruction.

The premise on which this title is based is: "To be successful in integrating technology into classroom instruction, training for teachers must first focus on effective lesson plan design and teaching strategies. Without mastering these skills first, no amount of technical training, no matter how effective, will translate into valuable technology units." The "Web-Based Learning Model" is a plan that can be initiated for professional staff development as well as for student guidance in research. The model is sequential and is designed for media specialists, technology trainers (frequently the librarians), and teachers, stressing collaboration throughout. The foundation of the model is the development of Essential Questions, which are related to state curriculum standards, and support the concept and topic to be taught. Evaluation rubrics are included with examples, forms, and templates. This book will require study and the involvement of administration and staff, but using the model is a practical approach to promoting "active learning-that is, students collaborating, working together to solve different parts of the same problem, and producing a new way of looking at information."
