Approx dims: 180mm h x 110mm w x 13mm d. Intact clean, slightly sunned condition orange Penguin covers with slight staining, rubbing and creasing to edges and corners, slight signs of handling. Intact tanned spine with fraying to bottom. 256 clean tanned inside pages of English text, no inscriptions. Some creasing to corners some inside pages. Page ends tanned. Image shown is actual book for sale. Synopsis: This volume of short stories is a demonstration of a most difficult kind of fiction, for these are not in any sense the usual run of 'magazine stories'. That is to say, they are not slick prefabricated affairs depending on some surprise climax, neither are they little conjuring tricks with well-worn situations. They are character-sketches of men and women caught in a predicament, microscopic studies of human behaviour in some sharply-defined situation or dilemma. The stories are set in the time before the Nazis consolidated their control of Austria. Seller Inventory # ABE-1552483368170
