Carstairs, a couple of nicks around head, the larger one to front panel accompanied by a little creasing, hint of sunning to backstrip panel, rear panel a little dustsoiled, very good. Published in Vienna the year before, this is the first of the Austrian author's novels to appear in England - the rear flap carries the praise of Thomas Mann, Sigrid Undset, and Arthur Schnitzler. It is the tale of an 'Anatolian peasant [.] awakened to the power of machinery by a friendship with two German engineers' (blurb), which opens up a new world of exploration - the work's title referring to a 'vast Soviet propaganda plane' (blurb), in which he travels to New York in the work's denouement, and meets disaster. The dustjacket carries excellent designs by J.L. Carstairs to its front and backstrip panels.
