A. SHERRIFF SCOTT"Adam Sherrif-Scott was born in 1887 in Perth, Scotland. He began his studies at the Edinburgh of Art. He continued his studies at the National Gallery and the Tate Museum in London. He moved to Montreal from the year 1915 and joined the group of Beaver Hall alongside Anne Savage, Edwin Holgate and Robert Pilot among others.He did his military service for the Canadian army during the First World War. He was then solicited to make portraits and posters for the Canadian Pacific. It was from the 1920s that he began to live in the far north and to paint the subjects of the first nations." bio from the Cosner Gallery in Montreal:THREE color plates from of his paintings pulled from the 1941 Limited Edition; Canada: The Foundations of its Future. One of approximately 300 to 400 copies.The House of Seagram sponsored this original collection by Canadian artists during World War II on especially made paper.
